Dar es Salaam — Dar es Salaam on Wednesday became the latest city around the world to welcome Uber, the taxi-hailing mobile phone technology that is revolutionalising transportation in mega cities.

Uber branded taxis will be available in the city from Thursday June 16 at a fraction of the cost of the normal taxis currently plying the city of nearly 5 million people.

The service, confirmed at a press conference yesterday, is expected to have a smooth take-off unlike in other African cities such as Nairobi and Johannesburg, where local operators attempted to resist its entry for fear of domination
